PROPHETS of MARS spans a period shortly after humanity has established several colonies on the Moon (Luna) and a large base on Mars. There is a massive space structure that fully encircles the Earth, known as the ARC. And there has been a manned expedition to Venus. Space is now a local frontier.
Despite scientific advances, a global anti-scientific movement called ‘Earth First,’ has influenced the policies of most governments, prompting them to turn their backs on the stars now. Earth First was also the driving force behind a document known as the Universal Codex of Truth. A joint statement from authoritarian governments, political entities, and adherents of various faiths aimed at creating what they consider an acceptable society. That led to the marginalization of many individual and social elements.
As such, Luna has been abandoned, and the Mars colony has to support itself without aid from Earth. Throughout all of this, a corporation, RCI, has been working on several projects in the dark, and in unexpected places. Methods to terraform Mars, clinical immortality, and the control and adaptation of the unique gifts found in L-GEP children. Children conceived and born in low-gravity environments.
From the failure of the first manned mission to Mars to a mass exodus from Earth, of those people who believe in the need for a second planet, daily life on Mars is never routine. Accidental deaths can be expected, but a significant number of betrayals and murders make daily life more exceptional.
PROPHETS of MARS follows primarily the loves, losses and triumphs of Roselyn St Croix, the chief hydrologist on Mars. Characters are spread across the solar system, including Earth, Mars, the Martian moon Deimos, the asteroid Ceres, the Jovian moon Amalthea, and more than a dozen spaceships.
Throughout all of this is woven the mysterious ‘God-gene’, a substance found on every planet and moon, and it may have been the very seed of human life on Earth.
