Sovereign Light is a collection of ten stories exploring a near future shaped by the global deployment of micro modular nuclear reactors (MMRs), known colloquially, in these stories, as “fireflies.” Set in locations across the Global South and beyond, the anthology follows individuals and communities as they navigate the social, political, and economic upheaval triggered by cheap, safe, and decentralized power. From improvised microgrids and black market energy-sharing apps to cold-chain revolutions and post-colonial infrastructure shifts, these stories examine how access to autonomous electricity rewires not just the grid - but trust, ownership, and agency itself.
