Immortality: The Greed for Life is a three book series better appreciated by reading the books in order. This book “Elysium” is the third in the series, “Gomorrah” is the first book of the series, and “Salvation” is the second.

Gomorrah dealt with the difficulties civilization had brought upon itself through developing tools which eventually resulted in the making of tools with intelligence to rival human intelligence. During this ascendence, machines gradually replaced humans in all areas of providing goods and services. The wealthy continued to be served by mechanization while those whose lifestyle depended on their jobs became more and more desperate. With no work for humans to perform, the gritty underbelly of civilization was revealed.
With the advent of artificial intelligence a few forward thinkers realized that AI could be used for everyone's good or it could be controlled by business oriented corporations and governments in order to further subjugate the proletariat.
