An unknown threat advances on human space. As one world after another goes dark, panic sets in.

On a dry, remote planet, an eccentric engineering professor creates a wormhole drive that may save countless lives, but things go wrong. The existential threat becomes frighteningly real, and the crew, in their rusty old freighter, are flung across the galaxy. Scrambling to get back to civilization, they stumble upon something immense and unbelievable that might just be the key to everything.

Two of the professor's students set off on their own with the plans for the drive. They make deals, break out of government facilities, clash with pirates, and occasionally save the day. Skill, training, and new friends help them navigate the collapse of their society ahead of such an unstoppable, unknowable force.
