The inhabitants of planet Lipe have serious climate change on the horizon. A white dwarf star from the Galaxy's halo is predicted to perturb Lipe's orbit so that the planet's entire surface will be too cold for agriculture for a significant fraction of each of Lipe's year. Can they genetically modify the plants to survive the cold? Can they alter their food distribution systems for seasonal harvests rather than the continuous, year-round harvests they have always enjoyed until now? Does biology on the planet have a future?
